  • Structural biology laboratory is studying the structures of biological macromolecules using X-ray crystallography. We are trying to understand the underlying mechanisms of enzyme catalysis, ligand-receptor interactions and signal transduction pathways through structural analysis. The structure determination process includes cloning the genes of interest, overexpression and purification of proteins, crystallization and computer analysis of X-ray data.
  • Currently we are studying proteins involved in innate immunity such as Toll-like receptor’s adaptor proteins and cytosolic RNA sensing proteins. Our lab is equipped with molecular cloning system, protein expression system and FPLC for protein purification. We visit Pohang Synchrotron Laboratory for data collection several times a year. Protein X-ray crystallography can provide detailed structural information and deeper understanding of biological processes that can benefit many fields of biology.
