  • We are studying the regulatory gene expression by cellular environmental change. Our experimental approach is below. (i) communication between transcription factors and signaling molecules, (ii) whether transcription factor binds specific DNA sequence, (iii) interaction of coactivator and protein. Recently We studied epigenetic gene expression through histone acetylation and methylation.

    HIF-1α(Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1α) is our lab's main target protein. This protein is identified by mouse cDNA cloning(JBC, 1997). HIF-1α is important protien because two reason. (i) HIF-1α is stabilized in ischaemic tissues. Ischemic diseases (vascular diseases, myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke) due to ischemic cell death. (ii) HIF-1α/HIF-1β target genes are related to disease progression. For example VEGF(vascular endothelial growth factor), EPO(erythropoietin), iNOS(inducible nitric oxide synthase) and glycolitic enzymes are direct target of HIF-1α/HIF-1β. These target genes are related to cancer survival and progression. So HIF-1α has major role in cancer progression. For more information, visit our hompage(http://www.o2gene.org).
