  • Recent immunology is rapidly developing and covers very diverse important areas. Our Laboratory of Molecular Immunology (LMI) has been focusing on the identification of immunity regulating natural products which can be further studied on the molecular mechanism of action.

    Natural products can induce apoptosis or anergy against spontaneously generated neoplastic cells in our body. Anticancer agents have been screened from natural products and isolated by using various assay systems in cell lines and animal tests. Those selected apoptosis inducing agents are further studied on the signal trasduction for the elucidation of their mechanism. The second focusing area is to find antiallergic agents which block IgE production in B lymphocytes. To achieve this goal, we employs isotype switching mechanism in the cell line level. Blocking agents of isotype switching step will be applied for the treatment of atopy allergy, immune suppressor and asthma.

    The third focusing area is to elucidate relationship between obesity and chronic inflammation. Recent study show us that obesity induces chronic inflammation that can be manifested by the activation of various Toll-like Receptors (TLRs). Our laboratory is well equipped with modern experimental facilities such as FACS, ultracentrifuge, HPLC-Mass, ELISA, tissue culture system, western blot system and gene cloning.
